RAF SIMONS Spring/Summer 2014 Jersey T-Shirt - $235

Raf Simons' latest offering dealt with ideas around image and artificiality, and this T-shirt picks up on the theme with its bold print across the front. The graphic design stands in high contrast to the black cotton-jersey, generating a sense of energy and style that's hard to beat.

RAF SIMONS FW14 COLLAGE

RAF SIMONS x STERLING RUBY FALL/WINTER 2014 COLLAGE

For an assignment in class, we had to take a look from the Menswear Paris Fashion Week and make a collage out of it representing 'pattern invention' and also the original designer's taste. I decided to do a look from the Raf Simons x Sterling Ruby show for this assignment.

Raf Simons teamed up with artist Sterling Ruby for this particular collection.

"This has been nine years in the making" Raf Simons added about the collaboration with Ruby.

"This is our child."

The point of my collage was to demonstrate my own sense of deconstruction and reconstruction. I began by cutting apart the image and 'reconstructing' it into a separate, but similar piece, then taking the original image, left, and keeping it on its own. I filled the negative space with cutouts from the details of the particular look and pasting them in a seemingly organized reconstructed fashion.

Across the collage and on the clothing themselves, the word 'FATHERS' is used. Sterling Ruby said that, "Father is a particularly loaded word, used here to imply "the indoctrination of the man."

"A Ruby painting or sculpture often has an unfinished feel, an urgent sense of something protean arrested in motion. Simons made his name with clothes that traded on that same mood: deconstruction/reconstruction." (source)

Overall, I am pretty happy with this collage, not only because it was my first time doing such work, but because I feel like it showcases my personal aesthetics and also keeping true to Simons and Ruby themselves.

PEEPING MCQUEEN

Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2014 Campaign Short-Film

The newest video posted today by Alexander McQueen for the Spring/Summer 2014 was truly great. It was directed by Steven Klein and it is featuring fashion icon Kate Moss. This short-film follows a woman in the dark streets being followed by a stranger. The film felt very surrealist, especially with the opening scenes of the creepy-esque imagery being displayed on the televisions. I enjoyed the dark, ominous, vibe in this film. Paying hommage to the 1960's British thriller Peeping Tom by Michael Powell, in which a young film fan tried to film the fear in the eyes of the women he follows, Klein did a wonderful job of setting the mood and environment for this film. The soundtrack was perfect and is a work of art in its own. I love the leather pieces worn by Moss and I've been a fan of McQueen's collections recently. I recommend checking this video out and also checking out McQueen's Spring/Summer 2014 ready to wear collection.

GREG CAPULLO

Greg Capullo is one of my all-time favorite comic book artists and is currently working on my favorite current title, BATMAN. Working along with Scott Snyder, the team has made the creepiness and despair of Gotham come to life in my eyes panel by panel. Drawing inspiration from his work at Image Comics drawing Spawn, Greg Capullo transformed Gotham City and the characters that live there in a very horror type of way. I highly recommend checking out not only the current Batman series, but any work by Greg Capullo. The man is as talented as they come.
